Dr. Sheps received his medical degree at the University of Manitoba in 1997 and completed his residency in Orthopaedic surgery at the University of Saskatchewan in 2002. Following his residency, he pursued subspecialty training in shoulder surgery and elbow and wrist surgery, completing a shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Alberta in 2003 and an elbow and wrist surgery fellowship at the University of Calgary in 2006. Concurrent with his fellowship in elbow and wrist surgery, Dr. Sheps fulfilled the requirements of a Master of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary. In 2011, Dr. Sheps attended the Sauder School of Business at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver where he completed a Master of Business in Health Care Administration the following year. He is currently completing a Master of Science in Medical Leadership at Birkbeck, University of London. Dr. Sheps currently practices Orthopaedic surgery in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. He is an attending Orthopaedic surgeon with Edmonton Zone Orthopaedics, the Edmonton Bone and Joint Centre, and the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic in Edmonton, as well as Access Orthopaedics in Calgary. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sheps serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery and an Adjunct Professor in Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at The University of Alberta. He is Medical Director of the Edmonton Bone and Joint Centre. He served as Facility Medical Director of the Sturgeon Community Hospital from 2012 until 2021 and Medical Director of themAlberta Bone and Joint Health Institute from 2019 until 2020. Dr. Sheps is the co-lead for the Shoulder Module of the MSK Assessment Initiative sponsored by the Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network and is co-chair of the Edmonton Zone Orthopaedics Alberta Surgical Initiative Planning Committee. His research interests include the treatment and outcomes of shoulder, elbow and wrist disorders, as well as the epidemiology of shoulder and elbow injuries. He is a member of both CSES (Canadian Shoulder and Elbow Society) and JOINTS Canada (Joint Orthopaedic Initiative for National Trials of the Shoulder), as well as SURGE (Shoulder and Upper extremity Research Group of Edmonton). He has published papers in publications such as Arthroscopy, the Bone & Joint Journal, The Journal of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery, Shoulder & Elbow, and Current Orthopaedic Practice and is a reviewer for multiple peer reviewed journals.
